The Simple Things in Life

They call them the simple things in life. The things that come to us we cannot buy.

The sunrise, the sunset, a running brook, the crashing of ocean waves, the birth of a life.

I call them Miracles.

A bird’s song, the feel of the sun on your skin, the magnificence of multicolored autumn leaves.

They must be Miracles.

The first snowflakes falling softly on your face, the pre-dawn sky lit up in yellows and pinks.

Aren’t they Miracles?

A tiny green shoot breaking through the soil, the butterfly emerging from its cocoon, the circle of life.

Definitely Miracles.

The first glance of a newborn’s face, arms and legs unfolding from the womb, mouth wide open in a silent cry and then…..the first breath, the first cry.

The miracle of life.

A tiny baby’s fingers wrapped around your own, the softness of a newborn’s skin, a mother’s love, a father’s love.

Miracles indeed.

How many miracles do you miss every day?
How many wonders and mysteries unfold right before you?

Open your eyes to the simple things in life, to the miracles that surround you.

This poem is dedicated to my brand new baby granddaughter Jordan Ramdial born on September 27th 2013.
